The project aims to use telecommunication, computational and mass storage resources of the distributed supercomputer cluster Moscow - St.Petersburg for needs of distributed digital libraries for science, education and culture.

Nowadays there is a strong necessity to create in Russia a powerful system which could become a technical basis for elaboration and designing of large data warehouses. Such an instrument is of great necessity for the domestic science and culture. Under this system one has to understand a distributed high- performance data processing system, equipped by a disk and tape storage systems with more than 1 Tb of the total volume, modern archive tools of a similar capacity and modern ATM technology providing a high-speed exchange of data among the components of the system. The creation of such a system requires considerable investments therefore at the first stage it is reasonable to utilize already existed resources of the supercomputer cluster produced to solve the similar problems.

General requirements which this system has to meet are: its scalability, a convenient access to the stored information via Internet for a wide range of scientific and cultural society, providing modern technologies (like Corba) for remote users and programmers.
